When I first moved to Turkish Republic of North Cyprus (TRNC), I was drawn by its peaceful environment, low crime reputation, and student friendly atmosphere. For the most part, this perception is accurate. However, like anywhere in the world, minor criminal incidents do occur.
One evening in Kyrenia, I experienced a sudden mobile phone snatching incident in a busy area. Although it was shocking at the moment, what impressed me most was the immediate response from the local law enforcement agencies, including the TRNC Police (Polis Genel Müdürlüğü). I reported the incident right away, and within a very short time, officers acted quickly, reviewed nearby activity, and my mobile phone was successfully recovered.
